Nice zinc Wehrmacht Jäger related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served/was drafted in the Stammkompanie Jäger Ersatz Bataillon 83. This unit was formed in late August 1939 as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 83. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 83 which was part of the 28.Infanterie-Divison. This divison saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland in 1939 and after that it participated in the invasion of Belgium/France. In June 1941 it fought in Russia in the Moskau area, but due to heavy losses it was pulled from the front and send back to France to strengthen. The division was renamend into to 28.leichte Infanterie-Division and the regiments into Jäger Regiments. It was send again to Russia to fight in the area of the Krim.
The Jäger Ersatz Bataillon 83 was mobilized in January 1945 and destroyed in Festung Breslau.
The 'BL.G.A' on the back of both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Jäger tags are not easy to find.
