Very nice zinc Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was draften/served in the Stammkompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 45. This unit was formed in August 1939 in Elbing. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 45 which was part of the 21.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it participated in the invasion of France that took place in May 1940.
In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and fought in areas like Volkhow, Ladoga, Tilsit and at last in East Prussia.
The 'O' on both part of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
