The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served/was drafed in the Stammkompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 191. This bataillon was formed in late August 1939 in Hildesheim. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 191 which was part of the 71.Infanterie-Division. This division and her unit where put into action during the invasion of Belgium and then France. After France it saw action in the area of Kiew and later Donbogen and Stalingrad where it got destroyed in February 1943.
In March 1943 a new Infanterie Regiment 191 was formed in Denmark and was put into action in Italy.
The 'A' on punched in on the back on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype
