Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the Stamm Kompanie Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 193.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 193 was formed in the summer of 1939 in Hamm and in November 1942 renamed in Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 16. It supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 193 which was part of the 69.Infanterie-Division. In September 1944 the Ersatz bataillon was mobilized (Ersatz batillon was there after rebuild again.) and became part of the 176.Infanterie-Division. This division and her units where stationed in the Roer area. This is near the Dutch border in the Roermond/Venlo area.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the blood type of the soldier.
A Stammkompanie was a unit that trained the soldiers. Often the soldier of this kompanie were soldiers who had frontline experience, but no longer were fully usable at the front due to injuries. Of course this changed later in the war as there was a shortage of (front)soldiers and where mobilized also.
