Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the Stamm Kompanie Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 376.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 376 was formed in the summer of 1939 and supplied soldiers to Infanterie Regiment 376 which was part of the 225.Infanterie-Division. In Juni 1940 the bataillon was used (for a month) to form the III.Bataillon Feldrekruten Regiment 237 in Poland. In 1941 the bataillon moved to Denmark. In November 1942 the Ersatz Bataillon returned to Germany and was renamed Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 376. In September 1944 the bataillon moved to Holland and was used to form II.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 1226 which was part of 190.Infanterie-Division.
In late 1944 it was stationed and fought Kleve (Reichswald area) and 1945 it fought in the Venlo area.
The 'A/B' on both parts of the tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier.
(Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 376 was newly formed in that same month (September) in Germany (Bremen) and supplied soldier for 121.Infanterie-Division. A Stammkompanie was a kompanie that trained the soldiers. Often the soldier of this kompanie were soldiers who had frontline experience and/or were no longer fully usable at the front due to injuries. Of course this changed later in the war as there was a shortage of soldiers).
