Very nice aluminium dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' in used, but excellent condition.
The dog tag shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Stabskompanie Infanterie Regiment 539. The regiment was formed in January 1942 and was part of the 385.Infanterie-Division. With this divison the regiment saw combat on the Eastern front in areas like Fomino, Kursk, Woronesch, Donbogen and Bjelgorod. The regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 539 in October 1942.
In January 1943 the division, and her units, were destroyed when the Russian launched a large attack in the Stalingrad area.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Stab marked tags are not so easy to find.
