Very nice Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier/NCO who served in the Stabskompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 193. This unit was formed in late August 1939 in Hamm. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 193 which was part of the 69.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Norway. From late November 1942 it fought in Russia in areas like Wolchow, Leningrad, Newel and Ostrow.
In November 1942 the ersatz bataillon was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 193.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
