Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier/NCO who served within the Stabskompanie II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 32. The II.Bataillon of this regiment was formed from Landespolizei troops and soldiers from Infanterie Regiment 53. It was part ofthe 14.Infanterie-Division, but switched in the Autumn of 1938 to the 24.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw it's first combat during the invasion of Poland that took place in September 1939. After Poland it saw action during the invasion of France. After France surrenderred the regiment operated as coastal defence at the Schelde-Mündung. In November 1940 the Stab and the II.bataillon was used to form Infanterie Regiment 261 which was part of the 113.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Russia and operated in different areas until it was destroyed in Stalingrad.
A new II.Bataillon of Infanterie Regiment 32 was formed in November 1940 and in June 1941 participated in the invasion of Russia. It operated in the areas of Kiev, Krim and Leningrad. In October 1942 the regiment was renamend into Grenadier Regiment 32. In the last stages of the war it fought in the Kurland pocket.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag was carved in by the soldier himself and stands for his bloodtype.
