Nice zinc Wehrmacht Grenadier related tag in used condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Stabskompanie Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 37. This bataillon was formed in late August 1939 in Osnabruck as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 37. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 37 which was part of the 6.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Belgium and France. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia.
In November 1942 the ersatz bataillon was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 37 and in September 1944 it was renamed into Reserve Grenadier Bataillon 37 and became part of the 526.Reserve-Division.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
