Very nice zinc stafflevel Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the Stabskompanie II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 189. This regiment was formed in December 1939 and was part of the 81.Infanterie-Division. It was equipped with captured Czech weapons. It saw its first combat during the invasion of France in Mai 1940. Between August 1940 and February 1941 the division and her units were on leave.
In December 1941 the division and her units moved to Russia and were put into action. The division was split into 3 Kampfgruppe. Infanterie Regiment 189 together with the II.Abteilung Artillerie Regiment 181 were Kampfgruppe 1. This Kampfgruppe fought in the Dubno-Toropez and Welikije Luki area were it got destroyed in early 1942 and Infanterie Regiment 189 was disbanned. In October 1943 the regiment was reformed again as Grenadier Regiment 189.
