The document shows overall signs of wear. Folded twice but its solid. The Infanterie Sturmabzeichen was awarded on 30 Juni 1944. Benno served in the Stab II.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 366.
This regiment was formed in the summer of 1939 as Infanterie Regiment 366 and was part of the 227.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of Holland by crossing the border at Enschede. After Holland it saw combat in France where it stayed till September. In October it moved to Russia. To the Wolchow area. In May 1942 it was in Leningrad.
In October 1942 the regiment was renamed in to Grenadier Regiment 366. Still part of the 227.Infanterie-Division it saw combat, after Leningrad, in Narwa, Pleskau,Livland,Kurland,Westpreußen and finally in Swinemunde.
