Very nice aluminium Stab Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 55 dog tag in used, but good condition.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the Stab (Staff) companie of the bataillon. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 55 was formed in August 1939 in Würzburg. It was part of the Division 173 and it trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 55. This regiment was part of the 17.Infanterie-Division and saw it's first combat during the invasion of Poland and then France. After France the division and her units participated in the invasion of Russia and saw combat in areas like Brest-Litowsk, Bialystok, Juchnow, Mius, Nikopol and Radom.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
