The document shows overall signs of wear. Folded but its solid. The Infanterie Sturmabzeichen was awarded on 06 November 1941. Werner served in the Stab III Infanterie Regiment 176. This regiment was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 61.Infanterie-Division. With this division the regiment saw combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it was put into action during the Westfeldzug, in Belgium and France. In November the III.Abteilung of the Regiment was asigned to the 336.Infanterie-Division. The abteilung was then rebuild and moved with the division to fight in the east. It fought in areas like Memel, Riga, Baltic islands and later Wolchow, Leningrad, Narwa and Kurland. The document is signed by Oberst Robert Sattler, wearer of the Deutsches Kreuz im Gold. In 1943 he became a Generalmajor.
