Very nice press photograph in good condition of Major Heinz Bär.
The photographs shows overall normal signs of wear. It's complete with paper caption on the back. Heinz was the commanding officer of Jagdgeschwader 3 the moment this photograph was taken.
Heinz earned the Ritterkreuz on the 2nd of July 1941 whiltst serving in Jagdgeschwader 51. He later also earned the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub and Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub und Schwertzen. Besides these awars he earned a bunch of others.
In March 1945 Heinz was in command of the III.Gruppe Ergänzungs-Jagdgeschwader 2. This unit was equipped (since March) with the new Messerschmitt Me 262. In April 1945 Heinz took over command from Galland of Jagdverband 44.
Heinz shot down a total of 16 US planes with his Me 262 making him the second most succesfull jet pilot of the war.
