The photograph shows overall normal signs of (storage) wear. It's complete with paper caption on the back. Karl died a month before this photograph was released on the 21st of November 1943 (he died on the 22nd of October 1943).
Karl was the commander of the Minenschiff "Cobra" / Führer Minenschiffgruppe when he earned the Ritterkreuz on the 27th of December 1941. He was granted the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub posthumously on the 18th of November 1943.
