Very nice press photograph in very good condition of Pionier Hauptmann Helmut Kalbitz.
The photograph shows overall normal signs of (storage) wear. It's complete with paper caption on the back. The moment the photo was taken Helmut was about the receive the Eichenlaub for the Ritterkreuz for his actions.
Helmut started his career with Pionier Bataillon 12 in 1935. In 1937 he switched to Pionier Bataillon 30 and participated in the invasion of Poland and France. In October 1940 he became the commander of the 1.Kompanie Pionier Bataillon 125.
In September 1943 he earned the Ritterkreuz for his actions, which can be found on the net. In January 1944 Helmut earned the Eichenlaub, as commander of Pionier Bataillon 31. Other medals Helmut earned where the EKI, EKII, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz,Silber and Gold.
