Very nice press photograph in very good condition of Knight's Cross winner Hauptmann Heinrich Gerlach.

The photograph shows overall normal signs of (storage) wear. It's complete with caption on the back. Heinrich was the personal pilot of General Student and participated in Operation Eiche which has as goal to free Benito Mussolini in which they succeded. Heinrich flew Mussolini and Skorzeny in his Fieseler Storch reconnaissance aircraft back to safety. For his participation Hauptmann Heinrich was awarded the Ritterkreuz on the 19th of September 1943.
Heinrich earned more awards/medals during his time in the Luftwaffe such as the EK2, EK1, Kreta Cufftitle, Flugzeugführerabzeichen, Frontflugspange für Transport- und Luftlandeflieger in Gold and Deutsches Kreuz in Gold when he served within Fallschirmjäger Regiment 4 (although this was documented).
The size of the photograph is 13cm*18cm. It's dated 13.10.1943.
It's very hard to find Operation Eiche related stuff.
