Very nice press photograph in good condition of General der Infanterie Friedrich Wiese.
The photographs shows overall normal signs of wear. It's complete with paper caption on the back. General Wiese was the commander of the 19.Armee the moment the photo was taken in August 1944. Here he is visiting a Kustenartillerie unit. This was 8 days before the Americans launched Operation Dragoon, the invasion of the South of France. Note the camouflaged canon and bunker.
Wiese earned the Ritterkreuz in late Februari 1942 as commander of Infanterie-Regiment 39. Two days later he was also awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold. He was awarded the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub in Januari 1944 as commanding General of the XXXV.Armeekorps.
The size of the photograph is 13cm*18cm. Dated 7 August 1944.
