The moment this photo was taken Günther was General der Flieger and here he is visiting a Luftflotte on the eastern front.

Günther earned the Ritterkreuz on the 13th of May 1941. He also earned the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on the 29nd of December 1942 and a lot more awards such as the Kreta armband, Krimschild, Wehrmachtbericht, Verwundetenabzeichen 20 Juli in Gold and a lot more.  
Günther was one of the 4 soldiers who were killed on the 20th of Juli 1944 in assassination to kill Hitler.
