Very nice and hard to find Wehrmacht Artillerie Vermessungs Trupp related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a NCO or CO who served within the Artillerie Vermessungs-Trupp IV.Abteilung Artillerie Regiment 173. This regiment was formed in late 1939. The IV.Abteilung was formed in Königshofen. The Regiment was part of the 73.Infanterie-Division and saw its first combat during the invasion of France that took place in May 1940. After France capitulated that division and her units stayed in France as an occupation force. In February 1942 the division moved to Romania, then Greece and after that to Yugoslavia. In June 1941 it participated in the invasion of Russia and operated in areas like Jassy, Krim and Mius.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
