Very nice and hard to find Infanterie Regiment 116 related badge in excellent condition.
The badge or 'Abzeichen' shows overall minor signs of wear. It was issued in the period of 18 - 20. June 1938 when the regiment exsisted 125 years! This regiment was stationed in Gießen and was part of the 9.Infanterie-Division. It saw its first action during the invasion of Belgium/Luxembourg and pushed through to France. From June 1941 on it operated on the Russian front and fought in areas like Shitomir, Kiev, Isjum, Kuban and Nikopol. In October 1942 the regiment became Grenadier Regiment 116.
In August 1944 the regiment (and division) was destroyed in Ukrain. It was rebuild again in Denmark and became again part of the same division which was now named the 9.Volks-Grenadier-Division. In January 1945 it operated in the Ardennes.
