The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. The abteilung was formed in August 1939 in Göttingen as Kavallerie-Ersatz-Abteilung 3 and was part of Division 159. In April 1943 the unit changed names from Radfahr-Ersatz-Abteilung 3 to Aufklärungs-Ersatz-Abteilung 3 and became part of Division 409. In April 1945 this division and her units were used to form Kampfgruppe Zehler and fought near Kassel. It surrendered to the Western Allies.
To 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the bloodtype of the soldier.
