Very nice aluminium Panzergrenadier related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted within Panzer Grenadier Eratz Bataillon 9. This bataillon was formed in August 1939 as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 9. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 9 which was part of the 23.Infanterie-Division.
In September 1942 the ersatz bataillon became Panzer Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 9. The unit still supplied soldiers to what was now named Panzer Grenadier Regiment 9 which was still part of the 23.Infanterie-Division now named the 26.Panzer-Division.
This division and her units where put into action in Italy and fought in the Salerno and Cassino area.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype. On the back the soldier carved in his POWnr., but this is very vague.
