Very nice near mint M34 'Feldmütze' also called a 'Schiffchen' or Side Cap.
The overall condition of this mid to late war cap is very good. Near mint. It shows only a few very small surface moth bites. The lining is intact and complete with a steel grommet on each side. The lining is size marked '58'. The insignia is, in our opinion, period hand applied.
This cap was never fitted with a soutache
Due to problems in supplying Feldmützen with the correct soutache, the decision was taken (10 July 1942) to stop producing and distributing the feldmutze with a soutache (preventing quick identification in case of capture was a positive side effect).
This cap can therefore be dated post july 1942
Not many of these non-soutache 'm34's' were made (compared to the soutache ones), as it was succeeded by the 'm42' in the same year and the 'm43' took over the following year (1943).
Overall an excellent and pretty scarce cap.
