Very nice aluminium tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' from a soldier who served in the Nachrichten Ersatz Kompanie Schützen Ersatz Regiment (mot) 83.
The tag shows normal signs of wear. The regiment was formed in August 1939. It was used as a Staff for the 'Ersatzeinheiten' within the 3.Panzer-Divsion. The division and her units where put into action during the invasion of Holland, Belgium and France. After France it participated in the invasion of Russia in June 1941. It saw action in areas like Minsk, Smolensk, Kiew, Charkow, Tscherkassy, Kursk and many more places.
In July 1942 the regiment was renamed into Panzer Grenadier Ersatz Regiment 83.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
Soldiers of a Schützen Regiment are the ones you often see in the Sd.Kfz's (halftracks) and are part of a Panzer Regiment/Division.
Interesting Panzer infanterie related dog tag which is not easy to find.
