The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the Luftnachrichten Kompanie Leithorst Erfurt. This was a communication unit of the HQ of the Fliegerhorst Erfurt. 'Leithorst' means that this was the controlling airfield in the region. Other airfields in the same region fell under the Leit(flieger)horst.
Fliegerhorst Erfurt was the base for Kampfgeschwader 4, Jagdgeschwader 300, Jagdgeschwader 3 and 5 and more.
The 'O' on both sides of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
