Nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infantrie related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the leichte Infanterie Kolonne Infanterie Regiment 72. This regiment was formed in November 1938. It was part of the 46.Infanterie-Division and saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland is moved west and in May 1940 participated in the invasion of Belgium and then France. In June 1941 it operated in Russia and saw combat in areas like Perekop, Krim, Kuban, Kriwoi Rog and Jassy before it moved to Hungary in the last stages of the war.
In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 72.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
