Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but very good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the leichte Infanterie Kolonne Infanterie Regiment 239. This regiment was formed in December 1940 and was part of the 106.Infanterie-Division. It saw it's first combat during the invasion of Russia in June 1941. It fought in areas like, Wilna, Smolensk, Gshatsk, Charkow and Kischinew. In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 239.
What makes this tag even more interesting is the additional information that was carved in on the back by the soldier. He carved in his; POWnr. '31G-589229' (on both parts of the tag), 'Res. Laz. Delbrück' which stands for 'Reserve Lazarett Delbrück', the dated '2.4.45', 2 April 1945 (is this the date of capture or when he was in the field hospital?) And last but not least 'PWJB France US Army' (also on both parts of the tag). All of the information can been seen on the photos, however not everthing is good visible since it is pretty hard to get a good photo of it.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
