The Verwundetenabzeichen was awarded on 21th of March 1944 to Gefreiten Wilhelm Fries who served in Kranken Kraftwagen Kompanie 219. This unit started with 2 Kranken-Kraftwagen Zugs and fell under the 183.Infanterie-Division and fought the entire war on the eastern front. Started off in Wilna, Wjasma, Moskau, Gshatsk, Spass-Demensk and Kiew before it was renemend/became Korps Abteulung C. In September 1943 it became just 1 kompanie. In Juli 1944 there were plans to reform the 183.Inf.Div. again but most of Korps Abteilung C was destroyed (Brody area) before they could execute it. In September 1944 183.Volks-Grenadier-Division was formed out of different Grenadier Regiments and also the remains of Divsioneinheiten 219. If fought fiercely against the Americans in the Battle of Aachen and also the Ardennes Offensive.
