The document shows overall normal signs of wear. The Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded to Schütze Johann Purmer on the 29th of November 1941. At this time the regiment, that consisted mainly out of older recruits and was part of the 717.Infanterie-Division, fought multple fierce battles against partisans in Serbia. As a matter of fact, the division (and her units) are responsible for multiple acts against civilians which took place in Serbia and Croatia.
