Both documents shows overall normal signs of wear. The set consist out of a NSRL Divisions-Meisterschaften Spähtrupp 3rd place document. Awarded on 22.April 1941 while Erwin was a Gefreiten and served in 8.Kompanie. The document is signed by Generalleutnant Friedrich-Wilhelm Neumann, wearer of the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (okt.1944). The Eiserne Kreuz 2.Klasse was awarded on 29.August 1942 when Erwin was an Obergefreiten and served in the Stab.II.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 695.
This regiment was formed in October 1940 and was part of the 340.Infanterie-Division. The division and its units fought some hard battles on the Russian front since July 1942 in areas like Woronesch,westlich Kursk,Shitomir,Winniza and Brody.
In August 1944 the regiment was disolved and a new regiment 695 was formed in September 1944 which was part of the 340.Volks-Grenadier-Division. In November it suffered heavy losses on the Brückenkopf Jülich fighting against the American 9th.Army. It pulled back the same month and saw heavy combat in Kampfraum Linnich, Lindern. By the end of December the division was put in to reserve for the battle in the Ardennes. Early Januari 1945 the division fought in Raum Bastogne and again suffered heavy losses. By the end of the month the division had pulled back to the Our-Stellung. In March the division was stationed in the south part of the Eifel and had a strength of 120 men! The division was destoryed at Remagen.
