The document shows overall signs of wear. The medal was awarded to Schützen Ernst Bayer who served within Infanterie Regiment 36. It was awarded on the 26th of October 1939. This unit was formed in the Reichswehr period and named Infanterie Regiment Gießen. When the Reichswehr became the Wehrmacht the regiment was renamed into Infanterie Regiment 36.
