Both documents shows overall normal signs of wear. The set consist out of a Anschluss Medaille 1.Oktober 1938. Awarded on 13.November 1939 while Josef was a Unteroffizier der Reserve in the 9.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 135. This regiment was part of the 45.Infanterie-Division and saw its first combat in Poland and in June 1940 it fought in France. In December of that year the III.Bataillon was used to form the III.Bataillon of Infanterie-Regiment 227 which was part of the 100.Leichte Infanterie-Division.
The Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2.klasse was awarded on 30.Jänner 1944. By then Josef was Oberfeldwebel.
