Nice aluminium Wehrmacht infanterie related tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the I.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 230. This regiment was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 76.Infanterie-Division. With this division it saw its first combat during the invasion of Luxembourg and then France. In June 1941 the division and her units were put into action during the invasion of Russia. It fought in areas like Jassy, Donbogen and Stalingrad were it got destroyed in February 1943.
As new 76.Infanterie-Division was formed in the same month and a new Füsilier Regiment 230 was formed in March 1943. It moved to Italy in August 1943 to disarm the Italian army in the Savonna area and the regiment moved again to Russia in December 1943 where it was put into action in Kriwoi-Rog, Jassy and other areas.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
