Very nice press photograph of a Gebirgsjäger related Eisernes Kreuz 1.Klasse award ceremony.
The photograph shows overall normal signs of (storage) wear. Complete with caption on the back. It was taken during a Eisernes Kreuz 1.Klasse awarded ceremony on the island of Crete. On the left we see General 'Papa' Ringel. The soldier in front of him is Oberfeldwebel Matthias Langmaier. At the moment the photo was taken Langmaier served in the 4.Kompanie Gebirgsjäger Regiment 85. He already earned the Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse, Verwundetenabzeichen and the Heeresbergführerabzeichen. An medal that was only awarded 380 times making it much rarer then a Ritterkreuz or Nahkampfspange in gold.
Later Langmaier also earned the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Kreta Armband, Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, Nahkampfspange in Bronze, Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber and the Ritterkreuz.
The size of the photograph is 13cm*18cm.
