The overall condition of both documents is very good. Shows normal signs of wear. The KvKII was awarded on 20 April 1943 (Hitlers birthday) to Ernst who served in the 12.Kompanie Grenadier Regiment 580. This regiment was formed in October 1940 as Infanterie Regiment 580 and fell under the 306.Infanterie-Division. The Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber was awarded on the 23.4.1944. At this point Ernst served in the 4.Kompanie instead of the 10.
In April 1941 the regiment moved to Belgium coast to finish its traning. In Juli of the year it was used for coastal defence in the Schelde-monding and near the Belgium-France border in the city of Panne. In October 1942 it was renamed in to Grenadier Regiment 580. On the 10th of December the regiment moved to fight in the east and once arrived it became part of the 11.Panzer-Division. It fought in the Donez area and later Mius and Nikopol. During heavy combat in November 1943 the III.Bataillon of regiment 580 sufferred heavy losses and was disbanned.
