Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildung Bataillon 46.

The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 46 was formed in the summer of 1939 and in April 1943 renamed in Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon 46. Besides that it supplied men to the 30.Infanterie-Division from the beginning, it also supplied men for the 89.Infanterie-Division since 1944.
(This division was formed in 1944 in Norway and was in resting modus for the summer in Holland before it was moved to the Ardennes (Eifel) in Ocotber were it fought fiercely against the Americans during the Ardennes Offensive).

The Gren.Ers.u.Ausb.Btl.46 was moved to the Netherlands in September 1944 and became the II.Bataillon of Grenadier Regiment 1225 which was part of 190.Infanterie-Division. In late 1944 its was stationed and fought Kleve (Reichswald area) and 1945 it fought in the Venlo area.
