Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon 396.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. Its a well preserved ground dug. The regiment started as Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 396 and was renamed Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 396 in November 1942. In March 1945 the bataillon came into action as part of Grenadier Ersatz Regiment 571 (Division Nr.466) and moved to the Western front to the Bocholt-Dorsten area and fought against the British. In late March 1945 it moved back east to Friburg.
What makes this tag unique is that information about the Ersatz Bataillon and Reserve Bataillon can be found, but Grenadier Ersatz und Ausbildungs Bataillon is only named once. The tag is however 100% the real deal.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
