The tunic is in well worn condition. It has some moth holes and some period repairs It belonged to an Hauptmann who served in 'Gebirgsjäger Regiment 98'.
The Gebirgjäger Regiment 98 was formed in October 1937 and was part of the 1.Gebirgs-Division. As part of this Division it saw combat during the invasion of Poland in 1939. It also participated in the invasion of France in 1940. After France it saw action in Yugoslavia, Serbia and Russia. In April 1943 it was put into action in Montenegro, Greece, Croatia and in 1945 in Hungary.
The tunic is complete with a beautiful hand-embroidered Officers Edelweiss with gold and silver bullion thread, a very nice bullion officers breast eagle, all it's buttons, EK2 ribbon and officers collar tabs and shoulder-boards. Underneath the right shoulder-board there is a button to attach a Schützenschnur. The Tunic contains 2 loops on the right breast for a German Cross in Gold (Deutsches Kreuz in gold) and multiple loops on the left breast for medals and/or a ribbon bar.
The lining on the inside is also in used condition (see the photos). The tunic is not label marked by the tailor.
