Death notice card of Oberjager Josef Schrottenbaum who died during combat in the area of Newa (Russia).
The card shows overall normal signs of wear. According the notice Josef died on the 25 Februari 1943 east of Newa. The exact area is Annenskoje-Moika. Josef was drafted in the 11.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 85. With this regiment he saw combat during the invasion of Poland and later France. In October 1940 the regiment became Gebirgsjager Regiment 85 and was part of the 5.Gebirgs-Division.
With this regiment Josef saw combat in Greece, Crete and Russia, where he unfortunately was killed at the age of 22.
During his military service Josef earned the Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse, Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Verwundetenabzeichen & Ostmedaille. Looking at the portrait of Josef he also was awarded the 1.Okt. Medal.
