Death notice card of Unteroffizier Georg Steffinger who died during combat in the Cassino area.
The card shows overall normal signs of wear. According the notice Georg died on the 11 Januari 1944 after 5 years of serving the Wehrmacht of his wounds he suffered during combat in Italy. In fact, we found out that Georg died at the Hauptverbandsplatz 1/95 (1.Gebirgs-Sanitäts-Kompanie 95). This unit was part of the 5.Gebirgs-Division which was stationed and her units fought at Cassino and the surrounding areas.
During his military service Georg earned the Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse, Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Bulgarischer Tapferkeitsorden & Verwundetenabzeichen. Looking at the portrait of Josef he also achevied getting a Schützenschnur.
Georg is burried at the War Cemetery in Cassino, Italy. Block 10, Grave 300.
