The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served at the Fliegerhorst Kommandantur Leithorst Giessen. This was the HQ of the Fliegerhorst Giessen. 'Leithorst' means that this was the controlling airfield in the region. Other airfields in the same region fell under the Leit(flieger)horst.
This was the home of Kampfgeschwader 55 'Greif'. . The dog tag is broken, but complete and solid.
