The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who was drafted in the Ersatz und Ausbildungs Kompanie für Pionier Züge (motorisiert) Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 57. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 in Siegen. It trained and supplied soldiers for Infanterie Regiment 57 which was part of the 9.Infanterie-Division.
In November 1942 the bataillon was renamed into Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 57.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
On the back of the tag a vague POWnr. can be seen, carved in by the soldier himself.
