The map case shows normal signs of use. The leather is supple and all the straps are present. A bit of the seam has comes loose, but doesn't really affect the map case. The map case is unit marked 4.Kompanie I.Bataillon Infanterie Regiment 83. This regiment was formed in October 1936 and was part of the 28.Infanterie-Division. With this division the unit saw combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it participated in the invasion of Belgium and then France. In November 1941 the Regiment was renamed Jäger Regiment 83 and was still part of the division, which was renamed into 28.Leichte-Division. The rest of the war it saw combat on the Russian front in areas like the Krim, Leningrad, Wolchow, Minsk and Ostpreußen.
The division and her remaining units where captured by the Russians in May 1945 in Ostpreußen.
