Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the Kolonne Bau-Bataillon 2.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. Bau Bataillon 2 was formed from RAD members in August 1939 in Stettin and consisted out of the Stab, 4 companies and a Kolonne. The bataillon saw its first action during the invasion of Poland in September 1939 as part of the 4.Armee.
At the beginning of the invasion of Russia the bataillon was put into action as part of the 17.Armee. In June 1942 the bataillon was renamed into Eisenbahn-Pionier-Bataillon 2.
In 1942 and 1943 the bataillon was put into action in Mid and South Russia. A 5.Kompanie was added inJanuary 1943 which was a Turkestanische Kompanie. In late 1944 the bataillon, except the 5.Kompanie, was put into action on the Western front.
The 'B' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
This tag is published in the book'Deutsche Erkennungsmarken' by Jean Höidal (page 101).
