The overall condition of all 3 documents is very good. The Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse was awarded on the 11th of July 1944 to Obergefreiten Joachim Schmidt who served in the 11th Batterie of Artillerie Regiment 183. This regiment was part of the 83.Infanterie-Division and started the war in France in 1940. Late 1941 it moved to the eastern front and fought in areas like Welish, Newel and Ostrow. In the summer of 1944 it moved to Lettland (Kurland).
Somewhere between July and September Joachim must have been killed in combat. On 6 September 1944 his Leutnant send to his parents Joachim's EKII medal, award document according to the ''Einschreiben'' he send with it. The obergefreiten of Joachim's unit wrote a handwritten letter to his parents.
