Rare and large plaster wall plaque of Adolf Hitler.
The plaque has an overall very nice (old) patina. It has a crack through the middle, which has been very nicely repaired at one point (also the reason we halved the price!)
The piece is solid, but obviously needs careful handling. It has a signature of designer ‘Gösser’ from ‘Graz (Austria)’ on the neck
Johann Wilhelm Gösser (full name) was an Austrian sculptor who lived in Graz where he taught wood and stone sculpture at the Graz School of Arts and Crafts from 1920 to 1945 and was appointed professor and head of the sculpture department. Gösser created several (also award-winning) well-known pieces which were scattered across Austria.
Salient detail: Gösser became a member (in 1933) of the local group of the NSDAP in Graz (membership number 1,532,827), but was forced to leave the group on 30 June 1936 because he did not pay his dues.
The plaque is made of plaster, weighs about 2.4kg and the dimensions are: 39.5cm x 28cm x 3cm. It has a small hook at the back to hang it on the wall.
Unique and rare piece of history which is priced according its condition.
