Nice worn dog tag in excellent condition from a soldier who served in the 9.batterie Artillerie Regiment 31.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. Artillerie Regiment 31 was formed in October 1936 in Halberstadt. The 9.batterie was part of the III.Abteilung (7-9.batterie) which was formed in October 1937 in Göttingen.
The regiment was part of the 31.Infanterie-Division and saw its first combat during the invasion of Poland. After Poland it participated in the invasion of Belgium, France and from June 1941 on in Russia were it fought in areas like Minsk, Smolensk, Tula, Juchnow, Orel and Mogilew were the division and her unit were destroyed.
In July 1944 the 31.Grenadier-Division was formed from the remains of the old division. This division was later (October 1944) renamed into the 31.Volks-Grenadier-Division and was put into action in Latvia, Kurland, Thorn and Hela.
