Nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie tag in used, but good condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 9.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 504. This regiment was formed in February 1940 and was part of the 291.Infanterie-Division. This division operated a short time in France in June 1940 and was then moved to the east. In July 1941 the regiment became part of Kampfruppe Friedirch and operated in Estonia. After this the regiment became part of the 291.Infanterie-Division again and moved to Russia. It operated in areas like Leningrad and Wolchow. In October 1942 the regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 504.
The III.Bataillon (9.-12.komp) suffered heavy losses in the winter of 1942/43 and was therefor disbanned. A new III.Bataillon was formed from the III.Bataillon Grenadier Regiment 506.
