Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 9.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 226. This regiment was formed in late August 1939 and was part of th 79.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion of France that took place in May 1940.
From July 1941 on it participated in combat on the eastern front and fought in areas like Kiev, Charkow, Stalingrad, Stalino and Jassy. The regiment was renamed into Grenadier Regiment 226 in October 1942.

The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
